After falling just short last year in the Flyers Cup Final, the Father Judge Crusaders have been having a difficult 2009-10 season, But they've grown very tough in more recent games, all of which have been close with ties against several of the top AAA programs. This is very much thanks to star goaltender Matt Petitti. Story and additional photo (Feb 7)

The previously undefeated Springfield Cougars were unexpectedly routed last Friday by the Radnor Raiders on the strength of outstanding offensive performances by senior Sam Mannix and scoring leader Teddy Smith, a junior.     Roman Catholic Stuns Holy Ghost In AAA Shocker

    Among the AAA divisions, PCL Red is considered far more competitive than PCL Blue. For that reason the Holy Ghost Firebirds (ranked No. 1 overall) were favored heavily in last night's match with Roman Catholic (first place in PCL Blue). But the Cahillites were having none of it.     Doubts for now about who ranks first among AA teams were put to rest after the No. 1 Council Rock South Golden Hawks scored a decisive 3-1 victory over the No. 2 Council Rock North Indians in a battle of squads that were both undefeated until last Friday's "Battle of the Rocks." The score did not reflect the true margin of difference however because the star of the game was on the losing side. Indians goalie Jessie Goldberg kept the match close with a stand-out performance. Neither was able to earn their team a victory, but another chance is coming Friday (Jan 22) when the hot Penncrest Lions host the Conestoga Pioneers who are just ahead of them in the standings.     The Rancocas Valley Red Devils are on fire. Senior forward John Czarnick has ignited the attack with 25 goals in his last eight games, seven of them in just one match. With several players among the league's point leaders, RV has won three in a row to achieve a winning record and looks to move up on its opponents in the South Jersey Varsity Division.
