The defending Flyers Cup Champs have yet to lose a game through Jan 23. They had a scare against Pennsbury, but scored a power play goal late in the third period to salvage a 1-1 tie and keep their undefeated string intact. Any remaining doubts about their No. 1 status were put to rest in yesterday's Battle of the 'Rocks (Jan 22).

Word around the rink was that North “is better” than South. Well, they were also undefeated, and they had managed to tie South back in November, but following the decisive outcome in the Battle of the 'Rocks (Jan 22) North will still be looking up at South in the Rankings. Maybe they'll get another shot in the Flyers Cup.

'The East' is the toast of the West Chester area AA hockey ranks and will be a handful for anyone facing them in the postseason. Since their tie with W.C. East, the Cougars have run off five straight wins including an 11-3 shellacking of a strong Methacton squad.
Averaging almost eight goals per game, the Minutemen offense is clicking on all cylinders. Ed Sarin (44 goals) and Lou DeAngelo (35 goals) have accounted for more than half of the Minutemen’s 153 goals this year. Don’t sleep on the defense though: they are giving up just over two goals per contest.

The Falcons are doing it without some of the big-name scorers of the past. The team has bought into the system and they work hard in all three zones. The hard work paid off with a 1-1 tie against league front-runner, Council Rock South. With only two losses this season, the Falcons are in the thick of things with the highly-touted ‘Rocks.

Two games against Washington Township resulted in two ties, showing that the Chiefs can play with the big boys. A loss to Cinnaminson may be of some concern for Cherokee who will look to bounce back with only three games left in the regular season.

At 8-3-0, the Red Devils have beaten everyone that were “supposed” to beat. Losses to Henderson, Downingtown East and Unionville are all forgivable, but if they hope to do anything in the post season, they will need to find a way to win against the upper echelon teams.

The Pioneers are no strangers to the limelight. The 2008 Flyers Cup winners would love another shot at a crown, after they were prematurely bounced by Souderton last season. Alex Smith is pacing the team with 17 goals. ‘Stoga has tightened up their defense this season, allowing just over two goals per game. Story (Jan 20)

The toast of the CPIHL makes their debut in the AA rankings. The Eagles have not dropped a game in CPIHL play thus far (12-0-1 in league play), and their only blemish to an otherwise perfect season came in a 6-1 cross-over loss against Perkiomen Valley.

The Trojans' continuing dominance of the LVSHL cannot be overlooked. In their seven league games they have scored a staggering 69 goals and allowed a mere 9. Their top three scorers - Jeremy Campano, Daniel Plinke and Daniel Barnaby - are all among the league's top five scorers, each with 28 goals. But seasoned observers will wonder how well that dominance will translate when the action shifts to the south come Flyers Cup time. (For more on the Frozen Trojans, see our headline Story of Jan 21.)
Dropped Out : Ridley (No. 8), Central Bucks East (9).
On the Cusp: Souderton.
